3,2,1 blast off!

For the past few days, The Walrus & The Carpenter poem from Alice In Wonderland has been stuck in my head! The verse I’m thinking of starts with “the time has come,” so that would explain that. The time really has come! here you go, some things to ponder:

The time has come,’ the Walrus said,
To talk of many things:
Of shoes — and ships — and sealing-wax —
Of cabbages — and kings —
And why the sea is boiling hot —
And whether pigs have wings.’

It’s been 15 months since I submitted my application to the Peace Corps and the time has finally arrived for this adventure to begin! So excited to make new friends & family and to explore beautiful Vanuatu. Right now I am on my way to Los Angeles for staging – meeting the 29 other future volunteers and a 1 day orientation. Friday afternoon we all board a plane to New Zealand & then Vanuatu!
-
pre service training:
-a week of training with everyone
-4 weeks of language-based learning with the other education volunteers
-a week to visit my future site on Ambae Island (more on her once we meet)
-4 weeks of technical training with education volunteers
-swearing in as official volunteers

These past few days/weeks/months (damn, time has really flown) have been filled with great laughs with great company. I’ve had my fair share of good byes – the kind of byes you share with people you love. Can’t wait until we reunite, somewhere or other! On that note - thank you so much sam watts & everyone she got in touch with to write me letters. I can’t wait (but I promised sam I would wait, so I guess I can) to open them as time goes along.

who knows when post #2 will be, but until then, sending my love your way!

Alison
